Vrtiška
Roman Vrtiška belongs to the generation of young designers who studied interdisciplinary subjects before their own professional activities. Roman used his knowledge of glass and porcelain making at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague – the studio of Design Products III. It is the knowledge of techniques and mechanics of materials in the process of designing that he considers to be the crucial part of his work. Roman also attended Aalto University in Helsinki, studying furniture design, interior design and architecture. While studying at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague, Roman started on his independent work in the field of product design and interiors. His working range later expanded into graphic design and architecture. To name some of his best known projects: the collection of park benches Limpido for Egoé; the carafe for the Moravian glasshouse Květná; a kitchen for the company Indeco; tableware for an American company Teroforma; and the Sinus collection of city furniture for the company Mmcité.
Roman’s portfolio is very rich thanks to the wide range of his professional interests. He has done many architectonic realizations of houses and apartments with his own signature furniture and product designs. And last but not least, he is also engaged in graphic work, whether within a comprehensive design expression for individual contracts or within an individual visual identity.
Currently, Roman is working on a number of many different projects together with his colleague Vladimír Žák. The interiors of the boutique hotel Moods in Prague may serve as an example of one of their latest realizations.
Roman’s work has received many awards, not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. In 2008, he received the national award for student design.
The designer says: “I like things with a lasting value. Production is a creative process in which it is crucial to look for new approaches and ways”.

There are a number of trade fairs and exhibitions that are based on design alone, but there are very few projects that map the interior scene and present it to the public the way that Insidecor does. In many cases in my profession, I run into situations when the client is not aware of the different materials, technologies and availability of products. Insidecor Project endeavours to acknowledge this difficulty and offer clients “different dimensions in thinking”.

Thonet chair no. 14: For me chair no. 14 is a kind of embodiment of a personal manifesto. Its shape is a perfect combination of sophisticated abstraction based on real possibilities of production and efficiency. All these aspects form a perfect product that has become iconic, not only because of its quality, which has been tested by time, but also because of the affordability, which is the accompanying feature of this chair. “Fourteen” has become a complement to many interiors on many continents.
